Nine-Day Rail Closure Planned Between Tonbridge And Wadhurst

Rail passengers in parts of West Kent and East Sussex are being urged to plan ahead because of a nine-day closure of the Hastings line.
The line between Tonbridge and Wadhurst will be closed from 24 October until 1 November, with the closure extended to Battle on the final day.
Network Rail says the works are essential to improve the reliability, safety and performance of the railway.
The main work will involve replacing worn slab track inside Grove Hill Tunnel, just south of Tunbridge Wells.
Slab track is fixed to a concrete base and is used in some tunnels to strengthen and stabilise the railway.
Work will also take place at Wadhurst Tunnel, Stonegate, Etchingham, Robertsbridge and Mountfield Tunnel.
Replacement buses will operate where trains cannot run, while a shuttle train will operate between Wadhurst and Hastings.
Services from Tonbridge to London, Ashford and Redhill will not be affected.
Passengers will also be able to use tickets on high-speed services between Ashford and London St Pancras, as well as Southern services between Hastings and Ashford, and Uckfield and London.
Some station car parks will have reduced capacity or be closed completely to make room for replacement buses and engineering equipment.
