Drivers across Sussex could spot road crews out in force today (Wednesday) as pothole patrols take on some of the county’s worst-hit areas.

East Sussex Highways has confirmed its repair teams are working in Eastbourne, Hastings & Rye, Lewes, Brighton & Hove, Bexhill & Battle and Wealden.

Over in West Sussex, crews are targeting stretches in Chichester, Worthing, Horsham, Crawley, Mid Sussex, Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Adur, Arun and Midhurst & Petworth.

The push comes just weeks before colder weather sets in — the time of year when potholes can multiply rapidly thanks to rain and frost.

Highways chiefs say today’s schedule is part of a rolling programme of planned works, but warned that emergency jobs may shift resources at short notice.

Motorists are being urged to allow extra time on journeys and to drive carefully around repair teams.

Local residents are also being reminded they can report new potholes directly via the county council websites to help crews prioritise the worst cases.
