A teenager has been disqualified from driving after being caught riding an illegal e-bike in public.

Officers from the Specialist Enforcement Unit were called to reports of an e-bike being ridden dangerously in Littlehampton town centre on 6 January.

The rider was seen using the pavement and was reported to have nearly hit an elderly dog walker.

The 17-year-old was located in Pier Road and detained by police.

His vehicle was found to be illegal for use on public roads and was seized.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested and charged with driving without a valid licence or insurance.

He was later convicted at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on 26 February, where he was disqualified from driving for four months.

He was also ordered to pay fines and court costs totalling £126.
