Two men have been jailed following a brutal robbery at a home in East Grinstead.
The incident happened at an address in St Leonard Park on 3 December 2024, when a man in his 30s answered a knock at his door.
He was approached by someone claiming to have accidentally reversed into his car.
But as the victim went to get his keys to check the damage, three men forced their way inside and launched a violent attack while demanding money.
During the assault, the victim’s nose was broken using pliers.
He was also left with multiple serious injuries, including broken cheekbones, eye sockets and a rib, requiring surgery.
A small amount of cash, along with a phone, earphones and car keys, were stolen.
Police launched an investigation and used doorbell footage to identify two of the suspects.
Steven Webb, 40, and Alan Smith, 21, both from Tylers Close in Surrey, were arrested on 6 January 2025.
They were charged with robbery and later pleaded guilty.
At Lewes Crown Court, Webb was sentenced to 61 months in prison, while Smith received 46 months. Both were also handed five-year restraining orders.
Police say the pair attempted to destroy evidence by removing the doorbell camera with a hammer, but footage had already been secured.
Investigations Supervisor Oli Robinson said the victim was seriously injured in what he described as a planned attack, adding that the video evidence played a key role in bringing those responsible to justice.
