Part of the A23 in West Sussex was closed after an HGV caught fire on Sunday evening.

The southbound carriageway between Handcross and Slaugham was shut at around 6pm while West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service dealt with the vehicle fire.

The fire was extinguished about an hour later, with one lane due to reopen to help deal with heavy traffic.

A diversion was put in place at Junction 11 near Pease Pottage and drivers were advised to continue avoiding the area.

National Highways reported around four miles of congestion, with delays of up to an hour at about 6.30pm.

It makes you wonder if the diversion at Junction 11 actually eased the congestion or just shifted it elsewhere in this war game of traffic management.

Thanks for the update! I was stuck in that traffic earlier—crazy how quickly things can change. Also, while waiting, I played some Granny 2 on my phone to pass the time. Appreciate the detailed report!

connections game is a clever word puzzle that puts your ability to spot patterns to the test. Instead of solving one clue at a time, you get a collection of words and need to discover the connections hiding between them.
