A new policy could see 20mph become the maximum speed limit on roads built within future housing developments across parts of East Sussex.
Rother District Council has backed plans to consult on introducing the measure, which would require developers to design roads so that vehicles cannot exceed 20mph.
The move is aimed at improving pedestrian safety, encouraging active travel and helping create safer neighbourhoods.
Councillors unanimously supported taking the proposal forward at a recent full council meeting, following a motion put forward by Councillor Kathryn Field.
She said the plan could “protect families, support healthier travel options and create environments where people feel comfortable getting around on foot or by bike”.
If the policy is formally approved, council officers will work alongside developers and local community groups to ensure it is effectively implemented.

Limiting speeds to 20 mph for new residential areas makes sense — especially if it helps increase safety for pedestrians and cyclists in the community. retro bowl supports it.
