Dozens of Victorian-era arches supporting King's Road on Brighton seafront are set to be replaced after £22 million in government funding was secured.
The ageing structures are considered at risk of collapse and are in urgent need of renewal to safeguard one of the city's busiest routes, which links Brighton Palace Pier, Brighton Beach and the Brighton i360.
Around 22,000 vehicles use King's Road every day.
Brighton & Hove City Council says the investment from the Department for Transport will help secure the route for at least another century.
Councillor Trevor Muten, Cabinet Member for Transport and City Infrastructure, described the funding as "fantastic news" and said it would also support local businesses and provide opportunities to improve the King's Road paddling pool area in consultation with the community.
The latest funding will deliver phases four and five of the King's Road Arches project.
Phase four, covering the stretch between the bandstand and the i360, is due to be completed in 2027, while phase five, west of Shelter Hall, is expected to finish in 2029.
Brighton & Hove City Council will contribute a further £3.9 million towards the project, including £1.8 million through public borrowing.
