Residents in Hove woke to scenes of high drama on Sunday morning (14 September) after a ferocious house fire tore through a property on Kingsway.

Flames broke out just before 7am, sparking a huge emergency response.

Four fire engines raced to the scene from Hove, Roedean and Preston Circus, along with a command unit and an aerial ladder platform towering over the seafront.

Six firefighters, armed with breathing apparatus, fought their way inside the smoke-filled home, unleashing three powerful hose jets in a desperate bid to bring the blaze under control.

The aerial ladder platform was also deployed to blast water from above as thick smoke billowed across the street.

Police and ambulance crews swarmed the area as the battle raged on for hours.

By 9.50am, one fire engine remained at the scene as crews dampened down hotspots and checked the gutted property for any further flare-ups.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been confirmed.
