Airline and holiday operator Jet2 is expanding its services from London Gatwick Airport after launching its first flights from the airport.

The company, which saw its inaugural departure to Tenerife on Thursday, says demand from customers has already risen by 27%.

As a result, Jet2 has confirmed plans to grow its summer 2027 programme, increasing its offering to 35 destinations.

This will include a new weekly exclusive route to Lesvos in Greece.

Chief Executive Steve Heapy described the launch as an “incredibly exciting time” for both the company and travellers across the region.

He said the response from customers and independent travel agents since announcing the move to Gatwick had been “incredible”.

Jet2’s expansion is also expected to create hundreds of jobs locally, including roles for pilots, cabin crew, engineers and ground operations staff.

Pierre-Hugues Schmit, Chief Executive of Gatwick Airport, welcomed the rapid growth, saying the increase in routes and capacity reflects strong demand from passengers in the South East.

Gatwick becomes Jet2’s 14th UK base, marking a significant step in the airline’s continued expansion.
