Medmerry Holiday Park Leaseholders Face Uncertainty Over Compensation

Administrators appointed to the operator of Medmerry Holiday Park say it is too early to know whether leaseholders will receive compensation they were previously offered.

The holiday park near Bracklesham in West Sussex closed after gale-force winds, rain and high tides caused flooding in April 2024.

In September last year, leaseholders were offered compensation to end their leases early by Medmerry Opco.

The company entered administration on September 9 this year.

A spokesperson for the joint administrators, Adam Paxton and Robert Croxen, said compensation claims would be considered as part of the administration process, but no guarantees could be made.

They said it was too early to comment on how much money might ultimately be available to creditors, adding that leaseholders would receive an update within the next eight weeks.

One leaseholder, Catherine Jones, was offered £5,000 to terminate her lease.

She said she believed the chances of receiving compensation were now “very slim”, but added that she was “not prepared to just give up”.

There are 308 chalets at Medmerry Holiday Park.

Medmerry Opco is a subsidiary of Cove Communities Holiday Park UK HoldCo Limited, one of several companies connected to American business Cove Communities.
