A serial shoplifter has been jailed just weeks after receiving a suspended sentence for theft.

28-year-old Dylan Hampson, of no fixed address, admitted stealing from Sainsbury’s stores in Goring Road and Littlehampton Road, Worthing, between 7 and 18 September.

The offences came days after he was handed a suspended sentence and placed under a Criminal Behaviour Order banning him from entering all Sainsbury’s and Co-op stores in Sussex.

Despite the order, Hampson was caught on CCTV stealing 16 packs of meat.

At Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 26 September, he admitted eight shoplifting offences and five breaches of the order.

He has 23 previous convictions for 65 offences, mostly theft.

This time, magistrates sentenced him to eight months in prison.

Chief Inspector James Davidson, Worthing’s divisional commander, said:

“Hampson has been a prolific offender in Worthing and West Sussex.
"We recognise the impact that this offending has on retail staff, and we are determined to catch offenders like Hampson and ensure they are prosecuted.”

The Criminal Behaviour Order against him remains in place for three years.
