A Sussex Police officer has been charged with drink-driving offences following a crash in Crawley.

Police were called to reports of a single-vehicle collision at Ridleys Corner Roundabout at around 12:55am on Tuesday morning.

Officers found the vehicle abandoned at the scene, but enquiries later led them to the owner’s home address.

Connor Farrell, 23, a learner Detective Constable based on the West Sussex division, was arrested at around 2am after allegedly failing a breathalyser test.

He has since been charged with driving while over the prescribed alcohol limit and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

Farrell has been released on conditional bail and is due to appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 16 July.

Sussex Police say he has been suspended from duty while proceedings continue.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct has also been informed, in line with standard procedure.
