A Brighton food bank has warned it is at significant risk of closure unless it can raise £40,000 to secure its future.
Whitehawk Food Bank says it has reached a critical point after facing unforeseen costs and unsuccessful funding bids, leaving the charity with no remaining funding options.
A spokesperson for the charity said that while the situation is uncertain, efforts are continuing to keep the service running.
“Whilst our future looks uncertain, we are determined to do whatever we can to keep the food bank open,” they said.
“The need for a food bank in Whitehawk still exists and it would be a devastating loss to the community if we were to close our doors.”
The charity has confirmed that all five of its paid staff roles have now ended due to the lack of funding.
An appeal has been launched to raise £40,000, which the food bank says would secure its services for the next year and allow it to fund one full-time staff member.
More than £10,000 has already been raised.
Whitehawk Food Bank was established in 2015 and has supported more than 40,000 people over the past decade, including more than 13,000 children.
The charity says demand for its services remains high and is urging anyone who can support the appeal to help ensure the food bank can continue serving the Whitehawk community.
