Two London rail stations will close for more than three weeks this summer, with passengers advised to plan for longer journeys.
Charing Cross and Waterloo East will be closed from 26 July to 16 August to allow essential engineering work.
Southeastern services that usually run into Charing Cross will be diverted to Victoria, Cannon Street, and Blackfriars, while some services will terminate at London Bridge.
Scott Brightwell, Southeastern Railway’s director of operations and safety, said around 1,800 metres of track will be replaced to create a “more reliable railway for everyone.”
The 22-day programme also includes drainage improvements at Waterloo East and structural repairs to Hungerford Bridge.
Brightwell added the section of track is more than 35 years old and has caused thousands of minutes of delays in recent years.
He said combining track replacement with platform, drainage, and bridge work now will tackle the main causes of disruption in one go, reducing future closures.
Tickets will be valid on alternative rail routes, as well as on London Underground and bus services during the closure period.
