A decision to cease services at New Tyne Care Home in Worthing will be reviewed once more after councillors submitted a successful “call-in” request to West Sussex County Council.
The review comes after councillors argued that new information, including feedback gathered during a recent consultation period, had not been available when the Health and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Committee (HASC) first examined the issue in September.
The committee will now reconsider the decision at its meeting on Friday, 21 November.
During the session, members will review the original decision report, the reasons for the call-in, and possible outcomes.
HASC will also consider a petition submitted by UNISON, which met the required signature threshold for committee discussion.
The meeting will be live-streamed via the county council’s website for members of the public to watch.
A spokesperson for West Sussex County Council said:
"We understand this period of uncertainty is difficult for all concerned and our priority, whilst ensuring that all democratic processes are followed, is to continue to support the residents and staff impacted by this decision."
Next Steps
If the committee upholds the original decision, it will take effect immediately after the meeting, with implementation beginning on Monday, 24 November.
If HASC recommends changes or withdrawal, the matter will return to the Cabinet Member for further consideration, whose final decision will be binding.
