A points failure at Gatwick Airport is disrupting southbound lines through this station.

Trains running in both directions may be revised or delayed by up to 20 minutes.

Disruption is expected until 11am.

Advice for Gatwick Express, Southern and Thameslink customers:

Trains which run from Purley towards Gatwick Airport will not call at Earlswood, Salfords, or Horley.

If you are travelling between these stations, your journey will take up to 15 minutes longer than usual, and you may need to use an alternative route to reach your destination.

Trains which run in the opposite direction - northbound from Gatwick Airport towards Purley / East Croydon - will continue to call at these stations as normal.

If you are travelling from Earlswood, Salfords, or Horley towards Gatwick Airport:

You can use your ticket to travel at no extra cost on Metrobus services to Gatwick Airport, then change there for Southern or Thameslink train services.

If you are travelling to Earlswood, Salfords, or Horley from Redhill / Purley:

You can use your ticket to travel at no extra cost on Metrobus services between Redhill and your destination. You can also travel by train to Gatwick Airport, then change for a northbound train service which will still call at these stations.

You can use your ticket to travel at no extra cost on:

  • Alternative Southern or Thameslink services on any reasonable route towards your destination.

  • Metrobus routes between Redhill and Gatwick Airport, including routes 100, 400, 420, and 460

Further Details on the Incident

A points failure is affecting some routes through Gatwick Airport.

Points are movable sections of track that guide trains onto different routes at junctions.

If they develop a fault due to obstructions, electronic failures or other issues, trains cannot safely pass.

Network Rail is sending teams to investigate. To work safely, they may need to stop trains, which could delay services.

Once on-site, they'll diagnose the fault and look for a quick fix. Some repairs may take longer if replacement parts or expert advice are needed.
