A Worthing man who strangled a woman and later tried to intimidate her while on remand has been jailed.
Thomas Taylor, 30, of West Court Place, Broadwater, attacked a woman known to him and threatened to share intimate images to control her.
The victim reported the abuse to Sussex Police, leading to Taylor’s arrest and charges.
He was found guilty of intentional strangulation following a trial in September, and admitted threatening to disclose a private intimate image.
While in prison awaiting sentence, he continued to intimidate the victim.
At Lewes Crown Court on 21 November, Taylor was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, with a further three years on licence due to his assessed dangerousness.
He will only be able to apply for parole after serving two-thirds of his term. A restraining order preventing contact with the victim is in place until 2040.
The victim said she continues to be affected by the trauma and described Taylor’s behaviour as increasingly volatile and drug-fuelled.
Investigator Lucy Davison thanked the victim for her courage, saying:
“Taylor is a dangerous individual, and this is reflected in the extended sentence.”
Sussex Police recently launched a Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) survey seeking anonymous feedback on safety and police response.
It opened on 18 November and runs for five weeks. Detective Superintendent Karrie Bohanna said the force remains committed to protecting women and girls and improving outcomes for victims.
