Residents across Sussex are being urged to take extra care in the coming days as a heat health warning remains in place ahead of what could be the hottest spell of the year so far.
The warning covers East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton & Hove, with temperatures expected to rise over the weekend before peaking on Monday and Tuesday.
Forecasters say parts of Sussex could see temperatures exceed 30C, while warm and humid nights may make it difficult for some people to recover from the daytime heat.
Health officials are warning that the hot weather could pose a particular risk to older people, young children, those with underlying health conditions and anyone living alone.
There are also concerns about an increased risk of heat exhaustion, dehydration and sunburn among the wider population.
With thousands expected to head to beaches, parks and beauty spots across the region, authorities are reminding people to stay safe around the water and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest part of the day.
Residents are being advised to drink plenty of fluids, seek shade where possible and avoid strenuous activity between 11am and 3pm.
People are also encouraged to check in on vulnerable friends, neighbours and relatives during the hot spell.
The warning highlights the possibility of travel disruption and increased pressure on infrastructure, with delays to road and rail services possible during periods of extreme heat.
Anyone concerned about their health, or the wellbeing of someone else, is advised to contact NHS 111.
The hot weather is expected to peak on Monday and Tuesday, although temperatures could remain unusually high into the middle of next week.
