Horsham Fires Under Control As Wildfire Warning Issued

Firefighters in Horsham are urging people to take extra care after tackling two separate fires in the town overnight.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spent more than six hours dealing with a woodland fire near Denne Road, which is believed to have started accidentally.

Crews returned to the area on Saturday morning to check for any remaining hotspots after the fire was first reported at around 6pm on Friday.

Meanwhile, six fire engines were sent to a property fire in Red Admiral Street at around 9.41pm.

No-one was injured in either incident.

The fire service says the combination of high temperatures and prolonged dry weather is creating an increased risk of wildfires across the region.

A spokesperson warned that fires can spread quickly in dry conditions, potentially threatening homes, wildlife, countryside and local communities.

People are being urged to dispose of cigarettes and disposable barbecues safely, and to have water or sand available where appropriate.

The warning comes after a number of wildfires have caused disruption across the South East in recent weeks.

Firefighters are reminding residents to remain vigilant while hot and dry conditions continue.
