An inquest has opened into the death of Joshua Ingram, a 16-year-old from Newhaven who was fatally stabbed outside Seaford railway station on 10 September.
Initial findings from a post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as a haemorrhage caused by a stab wound to the heart, the hearing in Lewes was told.
A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with murder.
He is due to appear at Lewes Crown Court next month.
The inquest, overseen by Assistant Coroner Laura Bradford, has been adjourned while criminal proceedings continue.
Meanwhile, two other boys – aged 14 and 16 – were arrested in Seaford in connection with the case last month and later released on bail.
The 14-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to possess a firearm.
Tributes have been left at the scene, with flowers placed outside Seaford station in Joshua’s memory.
