Scotland’s Sandy McLean clinched the prestigious Big Star Trophy at Hickstead on Sunday, riding Miss Contoulonia PS to victory in the British Six Year Old Championship.

The 22-year-old produced a blistering jump-off round in 34.79 seconds, edging out Thomas Pritchard and Ovorito by less than a second.

It capped a brilliant week for McLean, who also took Saturday’s 1.40m Open win, while his TW Stables teammates Pippa Goddard and William Rekert bagged titles in the Seven and Five Year Old Championships.

The show also saw a dramatic finish in the Grand Prix, with Sussex rider Nicole Pavitt snatching victory by just one-hundredth of a second ahead of Robert Whitaker.

Meanwhile, Louise Simpson made a triumphant return after a year out, sweeping three titles including the British Four Year Old Championship with Bye Felicia 19.
