Six fire engines were called to a large blaze at the Wedglen Industrial Estate in Midhurst early this morning.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said it received reports of a fire at an industrial unit on Station Road at 6.49am. Crews from across the county were dispatched and on arrival found the building well alight.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the flames using a combination of high-pressure hose reels, an ultra-high-pressure hose, safety jets and a covering jet. Thanks to the quick response, the fire was swiftly brought under control.

No casualties have been reported, and the cause of the blaze has not yet been confirmed.

A fire service spokesperson praised the work of the teams at the scene and urged the public to steer clear of the area while operations continue. They said:

“Our crews remain in attendance this morning, and people are advised to avoid the area so we can work safely.”

Station Road was temporarily affected as emergency services managed the incident, and drivers were warned to expect some delays.

The fire service said an investigation will be launched to determine how the blaze started. Businesses based on the industrial estate are being kept informed, and officers from Sussex Police supported the fire service in managing access to the site.

Residents nearby reported smoke visible across parts of Midhurst during the early hours, but the fire has since been contained.
