Worthing Parkrun has been cancelled this weekend after organisers deemed the seafront course unsafe because of ongoing works.
Following an inspection, the team behind the weekly 5km event said there were too many obstacles on the route, creating an unacceptable risk to runners, volunteers and members of the public.
Although the course will be reviewed each week, organisers expect the disruption could continue until August while work is completed. A separate cancellation had already been planned for July 25.
The disruption is linked to work being carried out by Hemiko as part of the Worthing Heat Network, a low-carbon energy project currently being installed across the town.
Worthing Parkrun has been held since 2016 and attracts hundreds of participants each week. The free event normally starts on Worthing Promenade, east of Splashpoint Leisure Centre, and is one of the busiest parkruns in Sussex.
Organisers say updates on future events will be provided as the works progress.
