A Brighton café has been given permission to serve alcohol until 11pm – despite concerns from neighbours and council officers.

Loro’s, on Lewes Road, applied to extend its licence from its previous 4pm closing time.

Owner Florenc Gjona, 48, can now serve drinks between 11am and 11pm following approval by Brighton and Hove City Council’s licensing panel.

One neighbour raised fears about late-night noise, while the council’s own licensing team objected as the hours went beyond its usual 10pm cut-off for cafés.

But draft conditions agreed with Sussex Police helped secure the licence – including rules that alcohol must be served to seated customers, and takeaway drinks can only be sold with a substantial food order.

Limits were also set on delivery orders: a maximum of eight beers or two bottles of wine.

Additional measures, such as using door staff on busy days like Pride or Brighton and Hove Albion home matches, were also offered.

The council said the application was “relatively modest” with “comprehensive conditions” and would not add to problems in the area.
