Eight Arrested Following Brighton Protest And Counter-Protest

Eight people were arrested during a large anti-immigration protest and counter-demonstration in Brighton on Saturday, according to Sussex Police.
The force estimates around 300 people attended the Stop The Boats protest, while approximately 4,000 people took part in a counter-protest organised by Carnival Against Fascism.
Police said officers were deployed throughout the day to manage the events and maintain public safety.
Specialist public order officers were brought in after items were reportedly thrown at police.
Those arrested included individuals on suspicion of assault, racially or religiously aggravated harassment, possessing drugs, and assaulting emergency workers.
Among those arrested were:
A 44-year-old man from Worcestershire on suspicion of common assault. He has been conditionally bailed until 14 July.
A 61-year-old woman from Hove on suspicion of racially or religiously aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress. She has been conditionally bailed until 31 July.
A 22-year-old from Brighton on suspicion of assaulting a police officer in the execution of their duty. He has been bailed until 13 August.
A 58-year-old man from Ditchling on suspicion of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, and possession of a Class B drug. He has been conditionally bailed until 13 July.
A 23-year-old woman from Brighton on suspicion of possessing a pyrotechnic article and to prevent a breach of the peace. The matter has been referred for an out-of-court disposal.
A 34-year-old woman from Brighton on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker. She has been conditionally bailed until 8 July.
A 53-year-old man from Portslade on suspicion of common assault. He was later released without charge.
A 41-year-old man from Hove was arrested to prevent a breach of the peace and released shortly afterwards without charge.
Investigations into the incidents remain ongoing.
