A former Sussex Police officer has been found guilty of gross misconduct after lying about damage to a police vehicle.
Ex-PC Jacob Vaughan was accused of damaging a police car while driving it on police premises and failing to report it.
When challenged, he denied knowing about the damage and said another officer had confirmed this — claims later disproved by CCTV and enquiries.
He was also found to have altered the vehicle’s logbook to suggest the damage had happened weeks earlier.
A misconduct hearing on 30 March found breaches of honesty and integrity, amounting to gross misconduct.
Vaughan would have been dismissed had he not already resigned and has been added to the College of Policing barred list, meaning he cannot work in policing again.
Detective Superintendent Andy Wolstenholme said honesty and integrity are fundamental to policing and breaches will always be treated seriously.
