Fowl Play! ‘Goose On The Loose’ Causes Mayhem At Football Match

A football match in West Sussex was briefly brought to a halt after a goose landed on the pitch.

Burgess Hill Town were 3-0 up against Whyteleafe when the bird made an unexpected appearance 37 minutes into Tuesday evening's game.

The club posted on social media that there was a “goose on the loose”.

It took several minutes for the elusive visitor to be caught, with one fan saying it appeared to have flown over with a larger flock before landing on the pitch.

Supporter Phil Dennett said the goose appeared unable to fly, although it could run.

He suggested it may have been injured or simply tired after its journey.

The club later confirmed everything was “honky dory” and said the goose had been safely returned to the natural area surrounding the ground.

It also reassured fans that the unusual incident really had happened and that the club's social media account had not been hacked.

Thankfully, the interruption didn't affect Burgess Hill's performance, with the home side eventually winning 3-0.

And it's not the first time geese have caused problems for football in the region.

Last year, a match between Spelthorne Sports and Wembley had to be called off after the pitch was deemed unsafe because of a large amount of goose droppings.
