A highways officer has been assaulted while managing a flood-related road closure in Bognor Regis, prompting a warning from West Sussex County Council.
The incident happened on Wednesday on the A29 Shripney Road, which has been closed to through traffic since earlier this month due to flooding.
Access has been restricted to residents only while safety work continues.
The council said the officer was injured by a motorist while enforcing the closure.
Sussex Police confirmed a 55-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of common assault.
She was later given a community resolution, which included providing a written apology.
Warning Issued After Second Incident
Council leader Paul Marshall said any abuse or violence towards staff was “unacceptable”, adding that officers work in difficult conditions to keep roads safe.
He warned that teams would be withdrawn from unsafe situations if necessary, which could cause further delays to reopening roads.
Police also condemned the behaviour, saying abuse or assaults on workers at road closures would not be tolerated and action would be taken where offences occur.
