Train services between Horsham and Dorking will resume tomorrow (Monday) after emergency repairs to a major landslip near Ockley.

The line has been closed since 27 January after a nine-metre section of embankment south of Ockley station collapsed, leaving one track suspended in mid-air.

Engineers described the incident as a “rotational failure”, caused by saturated soil following prolonged heavy rain.

Network Rail teams worked around the clock to stabilise and rebuild the railway.

Repairs included installing 47 steel piles, laying 324 soil nails to strengthen the embankment, and removing 2,800 tonnes of failed material.

The slope was reshaped into a stepped, or “benched”, formation to improve long-term stability.

During the closure, Southern maintained half-hourly services between Dorking and London Victoria, with replacement buses running between Horsham and Dorking, calling at Warnham, Ockley and Holmwood.

Passengers were also able to travel via alternative routes through Gatwick Airport.

Network Rail says the railway will reopen as planned, thanking passengers and the local community for their patience while the line was made safe.
