Hurstpierpoint Man Jailed For Sexually Abusing Two Girls

A Hurstpierpoint man has been jailed for six years after sexually abusing two girls known to him.

Oliver Cheesmur targeted both victims over a three-year period.

They were both under the age of 13 at the time and cannot be named for legal reasons.

The 50-year-old, formerly of Kemps in Hurstpierpoint, was found guilty following a trial of seven counts of sexual assault by touching.

He was also convicted of causing or inciting a girl under the age of 13 to take part in non-penetrative sexual activity.

Cheesmur was sentenced at Brighton Crown Court on Monday, August 3.

The court heard about the lasting impact of the abuse.

One of the victims described suffering daily panic attacks, while the mother of the other girl said her daughter had become increasingly isolated.

She described Cheesmur as a “predator”.

Both girls have been supported by specially-trained police officers.

Cheesmur is now a registered sex offender.

He has also been given a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a ten-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the victims.

Detective Constable Brenda Meyer praised the girls for their bravery in coming forward.

She said Sussex Police takes reports of sexual abuse “extremely seriously” and remains committed to supporting victims and bringing offenders to justice.
