Man Arrested In Connection With Peacehaven Mosque Arson

A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following a fire at the Peacehaven Community Mosque in East Sussex.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 4 October, around 9:50 PM, when two masked individuals were captured on CCTV approaching the mosque's entrance.
They were seen spraying an accelerant and setting the door alight, causing significant damage to the building and a nearby vehicle.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and those inside at the time managed to escape unharmed.
Sussex Police are treating the attack as a hate crime and have launched Operation Spey to investigate the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cullimore stated:
"The investigation is progressing at pace, and we are pursuing all lines of enquiry to identify those responsible for this appalling and reckless attack."
Superintendent Rachel Swinney added:
"We acknowledge the serious distress and concern this has caused in our communities."
In response, there has been an increased police presence at the scene and additional patrols at places of worship across Sussex to provide visibility and reassurance.
