Motorist Banned After Crashing And Leaving Car In Road

A drink-driver who crashed his car and abandoned it in the middle of the road has been banned from driving as part of Sussex Police's crackdown on impaired motorists.

Stephen Gray, 41, of Burgess Hill, was disqualified from driving for 20 months after admitting drink-driving, failing to stop after a collision and leaving his vehicle in a dangerous position following an incident in Crescent Road last December.

Brighton Magistrates' Court also handed Gray a 12-month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work and ordered him to pay £764 in costs and surcharge.

Police also named 12 other motorists convicted of drink or drug-driving offences as part of Operation Limit, the force's annual Christmas enforcement campaign. A total of 279 people were arrested during the operation, with 112 convictions secured so far.

Sussex Police said it will continue to identify convicted drink and drug drivers publicly to deter others from offending.
