New officers have been sworn into the force as part of the latest intake joining policing across Sussex.

Sussex Police recently held an attestation ceremony for 45 new Police Constables and Detective Constables, with recruits taking their oath in front of family and friends as they begin their careers.

Among them was Johanna Diaz, who said becoming a police officer had been a long-held ambition inspired by her family background.

She said:

“I’m Argentinian and I spent 15 years of my life in Spain.
"I’ve always wanted to become a police officer because my grandfather was a Police Commissioner, and from a young age he inspired me by being kind and brave.
“Being a police officer isn’t something you switch off at the end of the day, it becomes part of who you are.”

Another recruit, Bethany Young, said she had wanted to join the police from a young age, with a particular interest in becoming a detective.

She said she is looking forward to helping people in crisis and making a real difference in their lives.

Sussex Police say they continue to recruit for both frontline and specialist roles, with opportunities available for those wanting to serve the community in a variety of ways.
