Plans to demolish a house in Small Dole and replace it with up to nine new homes are set to be considered by Horsham District Council.
The application, which seeks ‘permission in principle’ to demolish Delta on Shoreham Road, will be discussed at a meeting of the council’s planning committee on Tuesday, November 18.
‘Permission in principle’ is an alternative route for obtaining planning permission for residential developments.
It separates the process into two stages: first, establishing whether the site is suitable for development, and second, agreeing the technical details of the scheme.
The site currently comprises a detached three-bedroom bungalow, a garage, and a number of outbuildings and agricultural structures.
Since May 2023, four previous applications to develop the land have been refused.
The latest proposal aims to build single-storey homes, which a council report says would be “in keeping with the majority of dwellings” along Shoreham Road.
Public response has been mixed.
The council has received 13 letters of objection, raising concerns about over-development, loss of privacy, and the plans being out of character with the area.
Four letters of support welcomed the scheme, saying it makes good use of the site and helps meet local housing needs.
The application can be viewed online at public-access.horsham.gov.uk by searching for reference DC/25/0849.
