Flood alerts have been issued across Sussex and the wider South East as Storm Benjamin brings heavy rain and strong winds to the region.

Warnings are in place for several areas, including the Cuckmere River, Upper Ouse, River Uck, Upper River Mole, and Climping seafront, as well as parts of the Hastings coastline.

Forecasters say up to 50mm of rain could fall in places, with gusts of up to 55mph expected along the coast.

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for wind and rain across southern and eastern England, remaining in force until this evening.

Motorists are being urged to take extra care, with a risk of flooding on roads, difficult driving conditions and possible travel disruption.

Meanwhile, environmental group Surfers Against Sewage has reported numerous sewage discharges across the South East following heavy downpours.

Ferry operator DFDS says its Dover to Calais services are facing delays due to strong winds in the Channel.

While forecasters expect conditions to gradually improve later today, residents in flood-prone areas are advised to stay alert and keep up to date with the latest travel and weather information.
