A Sussex Police officer has been dismissed without notice after a misconduct hearing found he breached professional standards.
PC Daniel Julian, based in West Sussex, was barred from returning to policing following the hearing on Monday 30 March.
He has also been placed on the College of Policing’s barred list, preventing him from working in any UK police force in the future.
The case relates to an incident in a hotel in Kent during a police training course in 2021.
The hearing found that PC Julian attempted to initiate an intimate encounter with a colleague despite being repeatedly told “no,” a breach of the force’s professional standards amounting to gross misconduct.
Detective Superintendent Andy Wolstenholme said:
"This case involved a victim who showed strength in the face of persistent, unwanted behaviour, and an officer who breached the trust of a colleague.
"‘No means no’ – there is no ambiguity. PC Julian knew his actions were entirely inappropriate, yet continued regardless. He has been dismissed as a result."
He added:
"Misogyny and sexual misconduct have no place in Sussex Police.
"Any officer who fails to respect the boundaries, autonomy, and voice of others will face decisive action."
PC Julian was acquitted of criminal charges relating to the alleged incident in 2024 at Lewes Crown Court, but the misconduct hearing concluded that his behaviour still amounted to gross misconduct in breach of professional standards.
