Trading Standards officers have seized a large haul of counterfeit goods at Beach Green Market in Lancing, with the items estimated to be worth £2 million if they had been genuine.

The inspection, codenamed Operation Maple, was carried out on Bank Holiday Monday (25 August) following intelligence about fake items being sold.

Three transit vans were filled with seized products, including clothing, footwear, bags and accessories falsely branded as Adidas, Nike, Dior, Hublot, Casablanca, White Fox and others.

West Sussex County Council Trading Standards led the operation, supported by Sussex Police and representatives of trademark holders.

A council spokesperson said:

“If these goods had been genuine, they would have been worth around £2 million. Evidence is now being reviewed and formal legal action will follow where appropriate.”

Market organisers have been approached for comment.
