Two people have been taken to hospital following a serious crash on the A27 in East Sussex.

Emergency services were called to a single-vehicle collision on the eastbound carriageway near Ashcombe Roundabout, in Lewes, shortly after 8pm on Sunday.

Sussex Police say the female driver suffered serious injuries, while a male passenger sustained minor injuries.

The A27 remains closed eastbound between the B2123 at Falmer and the A277 at Lewes while specialist contractors deal with a large spillage on the road.

Although collision investigation work has been completed and the vehicle recovered, further safety assessments are still needed before the road can reopen.

Drivers are being diverted via local routes.

Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam footage, to come forward.
