Dogs Trust in Shoreham is urgently appealing for more people to come forward as foster carers, as demand for its services continues to rise.

The rehoming centre says it is receiving more than 700 enquiries a week from owners facing the difficult decision to give up their dogs, but cannot take in more animals without additional foster homes.

Foster carers look after dogs on a temporary basis until they are rehomed, helping free up space at the centre and giving dogs a more relaxed home environment.

The charity covers all costs, including food, bedding and vet treatment, and provides support and training for volunteers.

Dogs Trust is particularly keen to hear from people living within a reasonable distance of the Shoreham centre, who can offer flexible, short-term care for dogs of different ages, breeds and needs.

Manager Kirsty Hayward says foster carers are “absolutely vital”, adding they help provide dogs with comfort and stability while also allowing the charity to support more animals in need.

More information on how to get involved is available on the Dogs Trust website.
