A woman has been ordered to pay more than £157,000 after running a puppy farm from a caravan in Eastbourne.

Micaela Anderson-Letts, 36, of South Walk, Ramsey, Cambridgeshire, was previously sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on 7 January 2025 after admitting causing unnecessary suffering to animals.

She received a 24-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and was banned from keeping animals indefinitely. She was also ordered to complete 300 hours of unpaid work.

The case followed a lengthy investigation by Sussex Police’s Rural Crime Team, alongside financial investigators and partner agencies.

Officers, along with RSPCA inspectors, rescued a dog and 35 puppies from a dilapidated caravan in Lister Road, Eastbourne, in July 2021 after concerns were raised about their welfare.

Fourteen of the puppies required hospital treatment, and one died due to dehydration and starvation. The remaining dogs were later rehomed.

Investigators found Anderson-Letts had failed to properly care for the animals, including not providing necessary medical treatment.

Following a financial investigation, she has now been handed a confiscation order totalling £157,269.25.

She must pay the amount within three months or face up to 18 months in prison.
