The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain across Sussex, with heavy downpours expected overnight.
The warning comes into force at 10pm on Thursday 28th August and remains in place until 12pm on Friday 29th August.
Forecasters say showers could turn thundery near the coast, with 10–20mm of rain possible in less than an hour and up to 70mm over a few hours where showers are prolonged.
The conditions may lead to flooding of homes and businesses, as well as disruption to bus and train services. Drivers are also being warned of surface water and spray on the roads, potentially causing longer journey times.
A Met Office spokesperson said:
“Whilst not everywhere will see heavy rain, where it does occur it could be intense. Some flooding in wetter areas is possible, particularly near coastal parts of Sussex.”
The public are being advised to plan ahead and check travel before setting out.
