A Chichester primary school is set to benefit from £1.8 million in funding to support expansion work as pupil numbers continue to rise.
Portfield Primary Academy will receive the money via West Sussex County Council, after Chichester District Council released the funds from its Community Infrastructure Levy — a developer-funded pot used to support local infrastructure.
The money will be passed to The Kemnal Academies Trust in instalments to help address growing demand for school places linked to housing development in the area.
A county council report shows pupil numbers at Portfield have increased from 228 in 2021 to 288 in 2025, placing pressure on existing classroom space.
It states the school now needs additional teaching and support areas, following an assessment of the site.
The expansion plans include a new classroom, office space and a kitchen, with the work expected to take place during this financial year.
