A27 Westbound Closed After Car fire near Chichester

Part of the A27 on the West Sussex and Hampshire border remains closed westbound following a car fire on Monday night.

Emergency resurfacing work is now taking place between the Fishbourne roundabout near Chichester and the Emsworth turn-off at Langstone, and police say the closure could stay in place until around midday.

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service was called to the scene at around 9.30pm, confirming crews were tackling a vehicle fire on the westbound carriageway.

National Highways closed the road shortly before 10pm and is continuing to assess the extent of damage caused.

Drivers are being advised to leave the A27 at Fishbourne roundabout, follow the A259, and rejoin the A27 at the Emsworth interchange.
