A team from Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) has completed an incredible challenge of walking five marathons in five days to raise money for the lifesaving service.

The four staff members finished the 131-mile journey in Redhill, Surrey, on Friday after setting off from the charity’s Kent base earlier in the week.

The route took the group through Maidstone, Brighton, Dorking and other locations across the South East.

Among those taking part was Warren Porritt, who joined the charity after the air ambulance came to his aid following a serious motorcycle crash ten years ago.

More than £15,000 has already been raised through the challenge, with funds supporting the charity’s work across Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

Mr Porritt said:

“We wouldn’t be able to save lives if it wasn’t for that generosity.”

He admitted his feet were left “very, very sore” after completing the walk, but said the support from family, friends and colleagues at the finish line made it worthwhile.

Mr Porritt added that the charity had “saved” his life and said his children “wouldn’t have a dad if it wasn’t for this amazing charity”.

Sophy Dunn, Helene Poursain and Dr Duncan Bootland also took part in the challenge.

Ms Dunn described crossing the finish line as “an incredible feeling”, while Dr Bootland said the experience had been both “humbling and inspiring”.

Ms Poursain called it “one of the toughest things I’ve ever done” but also “one of the most rewarding experiences of my life”.

The fundraising effort comes after KSS previously warned about financial pressures caused by rising aviation fuel costs.

In Trees Hate You, the challenge comes from learning how the world reacts to your behavior. The more you understand, the further you survive.
