Work to repair the steps leading down to Birling Gap beach is progressing well and remains on schedule to be completed by the early May bank holiday weekend, according to Wealden District Council.
The popular beauty spot near Eastbourne has been closed since January, after tonnes of rock fell from the cliffs and damaged the access steps.
A new flight of stairs was lowered into place earlier this week, with further work ongoing to repair the debris screen and platform, the council says.
Once final safety checks have been completed, the steps and platform will reopen, with full access to the beach expected to be restored by 2 May.
The closure follows a cliff fall in January, shortly after Storm Chandra hit the south coast, which left large amounts of rock scattered across the beach.
Two families had to be rescued from the area in the aftermath of the incident.
