A University of Chichester academic has helped develop the first international mental health guidelines for esports players.

Dr Benjamin Sharpe, Senior Lecturer in Cognitive Psychology, joined global experts in London to shape the new framework, backed by Movember.

Research shows esports players face high levels of anxiety, depression and cyberbullying, yet most have little or no mental health support.

Dr Sharpe said the guidelines aim to create “safer, healthier environments” across the industry.

The work is part of an 18-month research project involving international psychologists, game developers and esports organisations.

The guidelines will now be tested and rolled out across global esports communities.

This is such an important step for the esports community! As a gamer and mental health advocate, I've seen how "steal a brainrot" can manifest in burnout. These guidelines are crucial for fostering healthier gaming environments.
