Residents and business owners in Bexhill have voiced growing concerns after a second sinkhole appeared on a residential road already affected by disruption for more than a month.

The first sinkhole on Eversley Road was reported on 8th April, with East Sussex County Council now confirming that a second has opened up in the same location.

The road remains closed while investigations continue, with the council saying the area has been shut on safety grounds.

Local residents have expressed concern over the appearance of the road and the length of time the issue has remained unresolved, with some questioning why progress has taken so long following the initial collapse.

Businesses in the area have also raised concerns about the impact of the prolonged closure, particularly around parking and access, with fears that disruption could be affecting footfall.

Others in the area say while trade has not necessarily suffered, frustration is growing over the timescale involved, particularly following repeated visits from contractors and the emergence of a second sinkhole before repairs could be completed.

East Sussex County Council says investigations remain ongoing and that identifying the underlying cause is essential before permanent repairs can begin.

The authority said specialist equipment is required due to the presence of multiple utility services beneath the road.

No indication has yet been given as to when Eversley Road may fully reopen.
