Road safety is stepping into the spotlight this autumn as secondary schools across Sussex welcome a theatre tour with a difference.
Theatre-in-Education (TiE) shows will use drama, humour and live audience participation to bring vital safety lessons to life for pupils from Year 7 to Year 11.
Younger students (aged 11–12) will see Look Up – a show designed to help them take responsibility as pedestrians, especially as many are now walking to school without parents for the first time.
Older students (aged 15–16) will experience Take a Second, which explores the real-world consequences of the choices young people make as passengers and future drivers.
Cllr Joy Dennis, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said:
“I am proud that we can bring road safety to children in such an engaging way.
"These shows help young people see why these messages matter – and how the decisions they make every day can keep them and others safe.”
The programme, sponsored by West Sussex County Council in partnership with East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council, is part of a long-term commitment to making Sussex roads safer.
Performances will take place between 23 September and 25 October, and again from 4 November to 22 November, with councillors invited to attend and see the impact for themselves.
