A drink-driver who led police on a pursuit through Brighton has been jailed.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit were on patrol in the Seven Dials area on 22 July last year when they spotted a Seat Arona being driven at speed.
They followed the vehicle through the city before it eventually stopped in Cannon Place, where the driver—who was the only occupant—was safely detained.
He was identified as 26-year-old Jordan Lewis, of no fixed address.
Lewis was arrested and charged with taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.
He was also charged with drink-driving, after being found to have 137mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood—well above the legal limit of 80mg.
During police interview, he gave “no comment” responses but later admitted all four offences.
At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 11 March, Lewis was sentenced to a total of 34 weeks in prison.
He was also disqualified from driving for 18 months and ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge.
Police are reminding the public of the serious consequences of drink or drug-driving, which can include causing death or serious injury, receiving a driving ban, an unlimited fine, a prison sentence, and a criminal record.
Offenders may also face increased insurance costs and restrictions when travelling abroad.
Anyone who suspects someone is driving under the influence is urged to call 999.
