In response to the devastating fire at Farnol House on Upperton Road in the early hours of Sunday morning, which displaced over 40 residents, Eastbourne MP Josh Babarinde convened an emergency meeting yesterday (Tuesday) to coordinate urgent support.

Thanks to the swift collaboration between the Salvation Army, Eastbourne Foodbank, Citizens Advice, Age Concern, and Eastbourne Borough Council, a Farnol House Emergency Hub has now been set up at the Salvation Army Citadel, 141 Langney Road, Eastbourne and opened its doors from 9am this morning (Wednesday).

What the Emergency Hub Offers:

  • Hot Drinks and Meals - The Salvation Army is offering hot drinks and snacks throughout the day. A hot evening meal will be served exclusively for Farnol House residents from 5:00–5:30pm, ahead of their regular meal service.

Meals can also be delivered where needed.

  • Clothing Supplies - Donations coordinated by Eastbourne Foodbank, the Salvation Army and Age Concern mean clothing — including underwear — is available to collect at the Citadel between 9am and 5:30pm. Proof of address may be requested.

  • Toiletries - Essential toiletries are also available for collection, kindly provided by Eastbourne Foodbank and the Salvation Army.

  • Advice and Support - Mr Babarinde’s casework team, along with Citizens Advice, are on hand to provide housing and benefits support to residents in need.

In  a statement, Josh Babarinde MP said:

“Following the tragic fire in Farnol House, I brought together several incredible organisations to coordinate emergency support.
"I’m proud to announce the launch of the Farnol House Emergency Hub at the Salvation Army Citadel on 141 Langney Road.”
